Prom 2009 Makeup

Glam Girl

When considering what makeup to wear to 2009 Prom, channel Scar Jo, Gwyneth Paltrow and, of course, Marilyn Monroe. For eye shadow, think earthy tones and a smoky-eye. Emphasize those lashes by applying lots of mascara. You don’t want to put so much on that your lashes look like spiders, but just enough that they remain the main focus of your eye makeup. Apply eyeliner so it is dark, but not thick. It should be noticeable without taking the attention away from your lashes. For this look, the trick for blush is in the application. You can really use any color that looks good with your coloring, but make sure it’s applied lightly so it doesn’t take away from the main focus: lips Bright pink or red lips are a must. Use lipstick, not lip gloss, to get that opaque, rich look. Be sure you put on more than one coat!

Vintage

For a look reminiscent of the 1960s, but beautiful for the 2009 Prom, natural and light are key – except when it comes to your eyes. Eyeliner should be sparse. But eyelashes big and obvious. Consider fake lashes to get an updated version of the “Twiggy” eye. It might be fun to try something different for the night of 2009 Prom! All other makeup should be very neutral. A light base foundation combined with a light pink blush is best. Natural colors should be applied sparingly to your eye lids. Lips should be painted a light pink with a sheer lipstick or lip gloss. Look to Heidi Klum for inspiration.

Once Upon a Time

Blues, whites, glitter and glow are the essentials for the ethereal look of a real-life 2009 Prom princess. This is a look Leona Lewis has perfected. Apply a light foundation, then a glow bronzer. A light pink on your cheeks and lips will accentuate your glowing skin. Sprinkle glitter on the inside corners of your eyes to finish off the look perfectly. If you’re not a glitter person, don’t worry! Apply a blue and white smoky eye with white as the base color to create a similar effect. Make sure you choose either the glitter or the smoky eye but not both. Too much of anything is bad – a lesson all princesses must learn sooner or later! Finish the look with black mascara. Feeling really daring? Try blue mascara on the ends of your lashes on the outside corner of your eye. This enhances your fantasy-like look and adds dimension to your eyes.

Fun and Flirty

When considering makeup for this 2009 Prom look, only one word matters: PINK! Look to Britney Murphy, the princess of pink, for guidance. Apply a light foundation. Depending on your skin and how comfortable you are with it, you might only need a dewy tinted moisturizer. Try to find a sheer, light-pink blush to put on your cheeks. A cream blush will contribute to the dewy, sweet look you want. Keep in mind blush goes on lighter than it appears in the package. A little bit of eyeliner goes a long way for this look. Some rose-colored eye shadow should be applied sparingly to the eyelids. A light coat of mascara is the next step. Consider a color mascara to add some innocent drama. Apply the black mascara first, and then add some pink to the ends of your lashes in the outside corner of your eye.

On the Edge

Nothing is subtle about Rock-star perfect makeup, and, as always, drama is the theme. For eyes, thickly apply attention-drawing colors to the lids. As long as the colors match your dress, pick any color you want! Over the eye shadow, add a thick line of liquid eye liner. Fake lashes are almost a must for this look. Make sure to cut them down so they look as natural as possible. After applying the lashes, add an ample amount of mascara. Keep the cheeks neutral so as to not overload your look but still maintain the drama. Outline your lips with red lip liner then apply several coats of red lipstick. The eyes and lips are really the focus of this look, so make them as dramatic as possible. For inspiration, look to Gwen Stefani, Fergie and Beyonce when trying to balance this look.
